I think that something along the lines of an IQ test, instead of the SATs would be much more accurate, since most of the people i know who listen to jazz, prog and classical are highly intelligent but don’t give a toss about academics.

Jen, although the link between musical genres and socio-economic industries is interesting, I highly doubt that this is reflective of any inherent racism in the SAT. There was some controversy over word choice a few years ago, and so the phrasing used on the current SAT is very carefully picked out to avoid problems like that. The link between poverty and lower achievement on the SAT (and, to some extent race, as a result of generally lower socio-economic status among different ethnic groups), however, is a disturbing trend which these preferences seem like they may reflect. I believe that it emphasizes the need for schools to reach out to students who are in lower socio-economic groups and help them to succeed, and to lower drop out rates among those who fit into such financial groups.
There is no cause and effect relationship. This simply shows correlations.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

What is surprising to me is that “Jazz” (as a genre) and “Classical” are toward the left.
It would make sense to me that more intelligent people enjoy more complex music. I would love to see a real study done on this topic. But this is an interesting graphic, even though it is wrought with error if viewed as a scientific study.
Affirmative Action is a joke. There need to be better solutions to those problems, not affirmative action. Why put someone that’s less talented in place of someone that actually earned the scores to be there, just because of race? If someone wants something, then they have to work just as hard as everyone else to get there, they don’t get a freebie card because they aren’t white. Equal rights for everyone doesn’t mean giving non-whites an advantage. I think it’d be great if they could give less privileged people spots WITHOUT having to deny people that actually earned the spot because I have no doubts that there are plenty of people out there that probably didn’t score well on entrance exams due to a poor background in education but are intelligent enough to do well at that school. Some of the best schools in the country have started programs where they offer lower (or even free) tuition for underprivileged people who can’t otherwise afford to go to school there, which is awesome but those people still have to work hard to get accepted to the school. I don’t care what race you are or how bad your childhood was if you want something, you have the power to do what it takes to get out of a bad environment and do well for yourself. Sure, some people have it harder than others. Someone growing up in a ghetto is going to have a harder life than someone growing up in the suburbs but that’s life, there’s always going to be people that have it harder or easier than someone else.
